22 January 2005: Snow
I managed to avoid most of the disaster that was January 20th
but, in doing so, I missed the weather prediction of seven inches
of snow. Luckily Ricky didn't, so we've got plenty 'nuff stuff
to last us 'til they clear the roads and my winter coat got back
from cleaning and repair in the nick of time.
All today the prediction was for blizzard!
I grant you it's snowing as I write this but I'll believe
the blizzard when I see it. I've seen two---no, three!---blizzards
in my lifetime. (I almost forgot the one when I was a kid, when
my brothers and my cousins and I tunneled all the way across
the street under the crusted snow. Wow! was that ever fun!) No,
I'm not going outside anyway, even with my winter coat back.
Under that coat, I made it through a winter night when we
had no power and no heat, so having that coat home makes me feel
safer.
(Hmm. We didn't think to make a book-run. I can't find a thing
on the to-read stack but sequels. Guess I'll have to reread some
old favorites Yeeaaah!)
Off-site On Snow:
Edited 17 Mar 05, to add these two very cool (pun intended
for the Lake Geneva) links:
- Faux
Snow - early photographers fake snow
- Lake
Geneva, where it was so cold that spray from
the lake froze as if it were tinsel in the surrounding trees
- extra special thanks to David P. for this chill-enducing but
jaw-droppingly gorgeous link
